Zoo animals felt
General Information
A visit to the zoo. Full of anticipation, with replay
Planning the next visit to the zoo or replaying the memories of the last visit: These hand-felted zoo animals make an exceedingly handsome figure in the process. Because it takes no more than the representation of one or two special features to work out the typical characteristics of an animal and highlight its special "character".
About zoos, you can be divided opinion as an adult - but children are unreservedly enthusiastic about all the exotic animals. See the giant elephant up close, laugh at the funny penguins, marvel at the majestic polar bear or enjoy the clownish pandas - in this country, only a zoological garden allows such experiences. And perhaps it will give your child (and you) a very special pleasure to pay a visit to the real animals together with his or her curious friends and to see in person how flexible an elephant's trunk is, how powerful a polar bear's paws are and how sparklingly water drops roll off a penguin's feathers. Long afterwards, a glance at the felt animal is enough to revive the memories and imaginatively replay them.
Also as a mobile above the children's bed or the student's desk, as an eye-catcher at the window or as a place decoration for the next children's birthday party - Ben has the polar bear, he sits next to Sarah, she is a penguin! - these zoo animals will leave a vivid impression.
A Fair Collaboration. Gry & Sif
During her backpacking tour through Nepal, the Dane Gry Staunstrup got to know the astonishing openness and warmth of the country’s inhabitants, and their craftsmanship bedazzled her. She was able to observe in detail how adeptly and skilfully Nepalese women felted wool into a wide variety of objects. Staunstrup felt it was time to make something good out of the untapped potential, and an idea was born: to combine Nepalese handicrafts with Danish design. And the idea was immediately followed by action.
The company Gry & Sif started producing a variety of products made of wool felt in Nepal in 2000. The designs created by Gry Staunstrup are as remarkable as they are understated and, characteristic of Danish design, at the same time fresh and merry. Nepalese women turn them into products employing traditional handicrafts. Fair Trade certified by now, Gry & Sif stands for fair wages and working conditions, environmentally conscious production and transparency. The company exclusively sources pure new wool from New Zealand sheep for the felting; each of the resulting products is handmade and unique.
