Yoga mat cowhide suede

A yoga mat made of leather? What seemed unusual at first, has quickly convinced us as an environmentally friendly and also haptically extremely pleasant alternative to yoga mats made of plastic. Its suede surface, in fact, offers hand and, above all, non-slip advantages, even compared to yoga mats made of other natural materials such as cotton or sheep's wool.
Our leather specialist Hack in Cologne manufactures the yoga mat from cow suede, which is applied to a shock-absorbing carrier material made of cellular rubber. This gives a lush material thickness of 7 mm in total, which provides optimal cushioning. This makes the mat suitable for dynamic yoga styles such as Ashtanga or Vinyasa yoga, powerful Kundalini or precise Iyengar yoga, but also for "endurance" styles such as Yin yoga, in which the asanas are held for a long time.
The suede is quite grippy and provides support in all downward and upward looking positions. The underside of the yoga mat is made of rubber and lies non-slip on any surface, so you can greet the sun everywhere. You don't even want to stop there, because the feeling of standing barefoot on the soft, even velvety leather at first is simply wonderful. Namasté, Christoph Hack!

As with all things made of good leather, also with this leather yoga mat will develop with time and use the beautiful, material typical patina. Each yoga session will leave its mark on the leather surface, this makes your mat not only distinctive, but also gives visible information about the frequency of use. The cow suede used is mineral tanned and comes in a durable quality with a thickness of 2.3 mm. The surface is not further damaged, moisture can still hardly harm the leather mat: Simply wipe it with a damp cloth after the yoga session.
For the 190 × 65 cm yoga mat, the leather is applied to the natural rubber in four individual cuts and additionally neatly sewn at the edges. The two leather straps sewn into one narrow side fix the rolled-up yoga mat for transport. So, on to the next yoga class!

Christoph Hack, fine bag maker and founder of Hack Lederware, has been dealing with very different leathers for decades, gaining a wealth of experience that he incorporates into the design of his leather goods. For us, he works exclusively with leather with natural surfaces from Germany, Italy and Scandinavia, but also with similar materials full of character such as canvas or pure wool felt.
