Yo-Yo with free wheel
General Information
Lasting fun
By nature, it is granted a long life: From robust regional hardwoods, the Hausruckviertel-based Kreiselmanufaktur Mader manufactures this free-wheeling yo-yo. The individual parts are turned and neatly glued by hand. The cotton cord is attached to the bar with a loop, so that the yo-yo by appropriate throw can also rotate freely in the loop, so "sleep".
Caution, danger of addiction!
The ancient Greek youth did it, children in the Philippines did it, the lady of the Age of Enlightenment did it, even the good old Goethe: play yo-yo. Finally, in the 1930s, the whole of Europe was gripped by a veritable yo-yo hype, especially after the free-wheeling yo-yo had been developed. And you? Are you ready?
The motion sequence with which you can let a yo-yo on its string down and up, you have quickly internalized, testify to generations of yo-yo playing children. To bring it back to your hand, all you need is that typical little jerk, called a "twitch" among yo-yo connoisseurs. The correctly dosed twitching you will quickly master, because it is child's play and belongs anyway to the basic movement sequence.
The loop with which the cotton cord of this yo-yo is attached to the connecting bar, but allows much more: thanks to this design, the yo-yo can sleep, that is, it continues to rotate in the loop without shooting up again. Putting the yo-yo to sleep at all is more difficult, but you'll master that too after a few tries: attach the string to your middle finger (please use a loop that tightens around your finger, otherwise the string will slip away), place the yo-yo on edge on the palm of your hand so that the string runs above the yo-yo, and finally throw it towards the ground with a purposeful swing, turn your palm downwards and let the yo-yo sleep. To bring it out of sleep, simply twitch again.
As long as the yo-yo is in the "sleeper" state, you can perform entertaining (and watchable) string tricks. However, you can just as easily play yo-yo without the big bag of tricks. But be careful, because the hype had its reasons: Playing with the yo-yo is so pleasurable that it certainly has a certain addictive potential.
Achtung:
Not suitable for children that are 3 years of age or younger. Risk of strangulation due to long cord.
