Worm composter for raised beds and beds

Our garden neighbors in France practice a composting method that is as simple as it is effective and helps bedding, raised bed and container plants to thrive in the long term. A terracotta tube with numerous round holes is dug so deep into the soil that the opening and lid only just peek out, and continuously filled with easily decomposable, shredded organic kitchen waste. The principle is known from the so-called keyhole beds of permaculture: Compost worms find their way through the holes into the inside of the tube - their larder - and convert the collected waste into worm compost. This worm compost is available to the plants directly on site as a valuable fertilizer (after all, the holes in the clay tube wall are not a one-way street). It is recommended to loosen the compost occasionally with a small shovel or fork. If you supply other raised beds or planters with worm compost and therefore want to empty the clay tube from time to time, make sure that you only remove compost and not compost worms.
