The PLICO serving trolley designed by Richard Sapper in the 1970s is one of his lesser-known projects, although it is one of his strongest designs. His more popular designs include the TIZIO work lamp and the ZOOM BIKE, which folds to a minimal size. Sapper was a master of construction and a great lover of so-called collapsibles. These space-saving products can be folded or modified thanks to their design, making them more versatile in their application. Sapper himself declared it an essential goal of his design work to solve and eliminate problems or defects that can be identified in existing objects. PLICO is handy and extremely compact when folded. Simply grab the top shelf and pull it upwards - and the furniture folds up. When folded, PLICO takes up minimal space and can be placed behind the kitchen door or between two pieces of kitchen furniture, for example, and remains stable thanks to the brakes on the rear wheels. It can be used in a variety of ways, as a serving trolley, as a side table by the bed or sofa or as a small, extremely flexible work table where you want to sit with your laptop and also need shelves for this and that work utensil. The top surface can be folded down in one simple movement, completely changing the structure of the trolley. The shelf now protrudes slightly above the trolley and serves as a usable surface. The structure of the serving trolley is made of black lacquered steel. The shelves are made of matt black lacquered thermoplastic resin, a very high-quality and durable plastic. Four rubber-coated castors, two of which can be steered and two of which have locking brakes, also glide over textile floors. Max. load weight: lower shelf: 7 kg, upper shelf: 4 kg or 12 kg.
