Window handle iron

These products have been made for over one hundred years by a family run smithy now in the third generation. For more than 20 years the firm has specialized in making handcrafted iron door and window fittings while keeping abreast of contemporary manufacturing techniques. For instance, the iron blanks are precision cut with a laser using a computer guided lathe and produced in series. The subsequent forging of the parts by hand then proceeds exactly as it did one hundred years ago. It’s the free-form forging by a skilled blacksmith that gives the work its finished look. Form, color and surface texture are determined mainly by the forging temperature. In the process of cooling, the door handles are treated in a specially developed process with a corrosion proof layer which is neither visible nor palpable. For use outdoors the door handle sets can only be used with constant care.

These door handles come from a forge that has been run for over 100 years and in the third generation as a family business. For more than two decades, they have been dedicated to the artisanal production of iron door and window hardware - without losing sight of contemporary manufacturing processes. The basis, for example, is blanks that can be mass-produced with consistent precision using computer-controlled lathes and laser cutting technology. The subsequent forging, however, is done as always already in manual labor.

And only then, during open-die forging, the workpieces experience their perfection through the skillful hand of the experienced blacksmith - both in shape and in color and surface structure, both of which are significantly shaped by the temperature during forging. Finally, after the door handles have cooled, they are painted in a process specially developed for this purpose, whereby a layer is formed that protects them from corrosion on the inside, but which can neither be seen nor felt. For outdoor use, the door sets are only usable with constant care.
