Training device Sensoboard

Physiologists use the word ‘proprioception’ to describe the way a person perceives his own body movements and position in spatial terms. Sounds highly technical – but it’s something that skiers, snow-boarders, surfers and skateboarders pick up instinctively. If it hasn’t been trained properly, the sportsperson gets a false picture of his own body movements in relation to his environment.
The Sensoboard has been shown to be an ideal training method. Standing upright on it requires active compensatory muscle effort encouraged by the board, which gives the impression of a shifting base. The board is equipped with a non-slip covering, and stands on a football which in principle should force the foot-board to tip over as soon as pressure is applied: however, this is prevented by rubber bands that do their best to return the board to its original position. When you stand on the Sensoboard and alter your position (as you must) even the tiniest amount, you are obliged to make compensatory movements in order to return to normal. In this way, both body and mind are obliged to react flexibly. It’s also fun: you quickly become ambitious to achieve more – for example, to catch balls, or even to do this standing on one leg. After only a short period of adjustment your calves and thighs will start to ‘let you know’ what muscles should be used and when – and you’ll also notice how useful this kind of training is in your everyday activities.
