Tea towel colored striped
General Information
Kenya's colors in Finnish weaving tradition
Lapuan Kankurit, a weaving mill based in the small western Finnish town of Lapua, specializes in linen and jacquard fabrics. For this pure linen tea towel, Lapuan has teamed up with Mifuko, another Finnish label, whose designs are inspired by Kenyan tradition and craftsmanship. This stems from the long-standing ties of the two designers with Kenya, which eventually led to a cooperation with Kenyan craftswomen.
The cloth owes its design and cheerful colors to this Kenyan influence, because in the natural white base are woven different widths, yarn-dyed stripes. The linen is woven in twill weave and washed on the spot after being made up, giving it a soft handle and a lively structure - but also making it impossible to iron perfectly smooth. Only the best linen yarns from long-fiber flax of European provenance are woven on the looms of the company, which is now in its fourth generation. The matching table linen is also available as well as a placemat.
