The fine-pored wood of maple, because it is so easy to clean and wipe clean, is popular in the kitchen for cutting boards, countertops and tabletops. However, it is also hard and therefore well suited for all kinds of woodturning. So we have this mill with precision grinder specially made from the light wood of the Swiss sycamore maple.
Swiss Precision. A Mechanical Crushing Mill for Nutmeg.
It’s basically more a rasp or a grater than a mill. When you turn the crank handle, sharp knives peel off tiny flakes of the nutmeg while four strong mandrels hold the nutmeg in place. Additionally, a powerful spring mechanism presses the nutmeg downwards and towards the opening.
Best for Dishes Allowed to Simmer.
Chefs often add nutmeg in this coarse form to dishes they allow to simmer for a long time; they use it for stews and dishes inspired by Indian and Oriental cuisine. The flakes give off their flavour more strongly and retain the nutmeg aroma longer than a powder can do.
