    General Information

    The package contains:

Cranberry 'Howes' (Vaccinium macrocarpon) The large-fruited cranberry or cranberry is better known by its English name, cranberry. It originates from North America, where it is cultivated on a large scale, particularly in the New England states. With its creeping growth, bright red berries and beautiful autumn color, the plant is also a decorative ground cover in our gardens and provides the typical tart, sour berries, which are considered a superfood due to their enormous health value.Fruit: The gooseberry-sized, round, red berries ripen from mid-September to the end of October and are extremely rich in valuable ingredients such as vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants. They taste sour and bitter when raw and only develop their typical fruity, aromatic, tart flavor after processing or drying. In the USA, they are traditionally made into juice or sauces and are a popular side dish for Thanksgiving dinner. Here, they are a popular snack, an ingredient in muesli or used in baking.Plant: The hardy, robust shrub grows with a creeping habit to around 20 cm high and 60-80 cm wide. In addition to the red berries, the pink bell-shaped flowers in May and June are also very attractive, as is the intense red-brown autumn color of the small, leathery leaves. The plant is suitable as a ground cover, but also for planting in containers. The ideal combination is with blueberry bushes, for example. These grow upright, while the cranberry, with its flat growth that hangs over the edge of the container, serves as an underplanting with the same site requirements. The cranberry is self-fertile, but a second plant increases the yield.Site requirements: Cranberries are relatively undemanding, but need a sunny spot with acidic to slightly acidic soil with sufficient moisture. Alternating wet soil is also tolerated. Vigorous, three-year-old shrub with 4-7 shoots, cultivated in a 3.5 l pot. Height on delivery 20-30 cm.

Goji berry 'Sweet Lifeberry'® (Lycium barbarum) The common buckthorn has played an important role in traditional Chinese medicine for almost 5000 years. Its fruit, known as the goji berry, has always been used as a remedy and for disease prevention, as it is said to revitalize the body and help improve regeneration, the immune system and blood values. The unusual goji berry is now also appreciated in the western world: Here, the "miracle fruit" has now become a superfood.Fruit: The bright orange-red, shiny, approximately 2 cm long berries form from August to October from the delicate purple flowers in June and July. The sweet taste is particularly pronounced in this variety, but the remarkable vitamin, trace element, phenolic and antioxidant content is particularly noteworthy. The first fruit can be expected from the second (sometimes already in the first) year at the latest; the berries taste good fresh and dried, but can also be processed into jam, liqueur or juice.Shrub: Strong, bushy growth to a height of around 2.5-3 m; the thorny branches are well tolerant of pruning, the whole shrub is very frost-hardy and robust against diseases. The plant is self-fertile.Site requirements: Relatively undemanding. Grows in all well-drained garden soils in sun and partial shade and is wind-resistant, heat- and drought-tolerant. Vigorous, transplanted, biennial shrub, cultivated in a 3-l pot. Height on delivery 50-60 cm.

Chokeberry 'Nero' (Aronia melanocarpa) In Russia and Eastern Europe, the chokeberry is widespread as a fruit tree and is even recognized as a medicinal plant. In this country, too, it is now appreciated as an undemanding shrub with high utility and ornamental value.Fruit: Black-violet with frosted skin, firm flesh and deep purple juice with a bitter almond aroma. Ripens in August. Excellent for juice, jelly, compote and drying. Aronia berries contain lots of antioxidants, vitamins and folic acid and are of proven health value.Shrub: With compact growth about 1 m high. Lush white, fragrant flowers in May (good bee pasture), magnificent, long-lasting, bright orange-red autumn color.Site requirements: Completely undemanding, very frost-hardy. Prefers sunny locations. Vigorous, two to three-year-old shrub with at least three shoots, cultivated in a 2-l pot.

    Berry fruit

Berry fruit bushes should not be missing in any garden, they are quite uncomplicated in cultivation and take up little space. Above all, they provide incredibly tasty fruits that can be processed in many ways (into jam, jelly, juice, compote or cake) and which - freshly picked from the bush and eaten - turn a walk through the summer garden into a culinary experience. Berries are also among the healthiest foods, because they contain a wealth of valuable ingredients such as vitamins, minerals or trace elements. And all the more so if they have not been transported halfway around the world, but come from your own garden.

    Article Number 215540

It has been known for centuries that berries are full of healthy ingredients. They contain vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, all of which are important for a healthy diet. Some types of berries are even said to have healing or disease-relieving effects, which is why they have been promoted as so-called superfoods for a number of years. Whether this is actually true remains to be seen, but the fact is that the berries in this package are as healthy as they are tasty and - if they grow in your own garden - are of the very best organic, regional and seasonal quality. What's more, they have not been transported over long distances and ultimately cost significantly less than store-bought fruit.

We ship from the beginning of February to the end of November. Please note that the planting season may be delayed or shorter due to weather conditions.
