Optically, the clear acetate frame of these sunglasses, inspired by models of the 1980s, clearly takes a back seat. Rather, the eye is caught by the category 3 plastic lenses, which go into the greenish range. With their strong tint, they protect against glare in almost all situations, even on water surfaces, on the beach or in the mountains.

Mapleton is the Hamburg-based eyewear label of Klaus Stiegemeyer and Florian Baron. Both are lovers of distinctive eyewear. In their search for the right frames, however, they repeatedly came up against limits, as shape and workmanship were rarely on a par. Without further ado, therefore, they decided to make their own eyewear, which they find completely convincing from the design to the handcrafted production. The shapes are classic, based on designs from the 1930s to the 1990s, and at the same time up to date - at Mapleton they say "Vintage Contemporary". Florian Baron explains it this way: "We have rummaged through the decades and gathered a pool of reference eyewear. The frames are based on the respective models. However, we make a point of locating the form in the present and dusting it off." The materials are also tried and true: Cellulose acetate and brass are used. Produced is purely by hand in a manufactory in southern Germany: it takes more than 50 steps to complete a single pair of glasses.
