Strategy game ConHex

The game idea on which ConHex is based is about as unyielding as Gandalf the Grey: "You! Can't! Gone!" Can't I? Well, maybe you can!

One player looks for a horizontal path across the board, the other player tries to cross the board vertically - detours are of course allowed. The path is the goal: the old Zen wisdom also applies to this entertaining strategy game. Players White and Black take it in turns to place their pins to stake out a claim - a square like this marks a section of the path. If I use the pins to claim at least two, sometimes three or four of the bordering hollows, I have conquered the space on the inside: I signal my conquest with one of my game tiles. In this way, I advance as long as no opposing tiles get in my way - and I may even have won the game with my continuous chain of tiles, i.e. with my unbroken path across the playing field.

The rules of the game are also quickly grasped by the youngsters and lead to some fast-paced races across the playing field. The cleverest among us put on their poker face and lead the other players astray by thinking long and hard about the best strategic next move or by suggesting dead ends. Of course, you can also just go for it - your offspring could turn out to be a master of this strategy - but as a rule, tactical skill and strategic finesse are rewarded with victory.

Whichever way you prefer to play: the playing field, pins and field tiles of this strategy game are exceptionally clean and solidly crafted so that they will last for years and generations to come. Both the game board and the field tiles are made of solid, oiled beech wood, while the pins are made of walnut or maple wood: their smooth, velvety-warm surface is an extraordinary pleasure to the touch - and your enjoyment of the game is guaranteed for years to come.
