Stocking felt

General Information
Stockings for Santa
Hanging stockings just in time for the Christmas season: for Santa Claus, to give presents on Christmas Eve or even for pure decoration. These are made of pure wool felt and are large enough to hold a good gift or two. Please note: The stocking with the reindeer motif on the front always points with its foot to the left; the stocking with the Christmas tree on the front always to the right.
An Anglo-Saxon custom
The custom of hanging stockings on the mantelpiece at Christmas originated in the Anglo-Saxon world. And it came like this:
Once upon a time there was a man who had three daughters. His wife had died, and so he had to take care of his daughters alone - a task that left him no time to earn a living, so that over the years the family became bitterly impoverished. When the daughters reached marriageable age, their father was unable to provide a dowry - but without a dowry, there was no wedding. Oh dear! St. Nicholas learned of the family's plight and set out to remedy it. Late on Christmas Eve, he reached the cottage where the family lived and spied the three daughters through the window, who were just hanging their freshly washed socks to dry by the fireplace. No sooner had the girls gone to bed than Santa secretly climbed down the chimney and put lots of good things in the socks. The next morning, when the daughters ...
You can guess the end of the story. The Christmas stocking was born - and remained with us to this day (and Santa Claus too).
A Fair Collaboration. Gry & Sif
During her backpacking tour through Nepal, the Dane Gry Staunstrup got to know the astonishing openness and warmth of the country’s inhabitants, and their craftsmanship bedazzled her. She was able to observe in detail how adeptly and skilfully Nepalese women felted wool into a wide variety of objects. Staunstrup felt it was time to make something good out of the untapped potential, and an idea was born: to combine Nepalese handicrafts with Danish design. And the idea was immediately followed by action.
The company Gry & Sif started producing a variety of products made of wool felt in Nepal in 2000. The designs created by Gry Staunstrup are as remarkable as they are understated and, characteristic of Danish design, at the same time fresh and merry. Nepalese women turn them into products employing traditional handicrafts. Fair Trade certified by now, Gry & Sif stands for fair wages and working conditions, environmentally conscious production and transparency. The company exclusively sources pure new wool from New Zealand sheep for the felting; each of the resulting products is handmade and unique.
