Stick umbrella EtaProof®

Our umbrella by Strotz is not only made in Switzerland, in its case even the fabric for the roof comes from there, more precisely: from the Zurich weaving mill Stotz. It is made of EtaProof®, the wax-based impregnated cotton cloth that is woven so tightly that the fibers swell on contact with moisture and water droplets bead up on the surface. The cotton used comes from controlled organic cultivation.

Strotz in the canton of St. Gallen is the last remaining umbrella factory producing in Switzerland. The company run by the fifth generation of the Strotz family dates back to 1851. One can ascribe the fact that the company has been able to hold its own in the market and, what’s more, is still flourishing today to the variety of designs, from elegant to fashionable. However, thereby one would serve no justice to the quality and service that the company offers. (Statistically speaking, every fourth Swiss owns a Strotz umbrella.) The company has most of its umbrellas manufactured in a closely and personally controlled plant in the Far East (otherwise, the company could not survive on the market) and produces socially responsible. Notwithstanding, Strotz has some umbrella models, including the ones we offer, manufactured by the 20 or so Swiss employees at the headquarters in Uznach. The selected fabrics for the canopies almost always come from Italy, the steel poles (they are only available from there) come from China. Carefully handcrafted, the umbrellas become reliable companions. For many years to come, they literally won’t leave their owners out in the rain.
