Soap dish thermowood

Soap requires proper storage after use so that it can dry properly. With its base concave to three drainage holes, this soap dish reliably ensures that residual water drains off - and in its purist design made of thermowood, it fulfills this task as attractively as it does durably.

Our ancestors knew an extremely simple and nature-friendly method of permanently protecting wood from environmental influences: thermal treatment, which does not require any chemical additives. The wood (ash) is deliberately changed at 180-220 °C and virtually "caramelized", which leads to the darkbraunen color tone. During this process, some components of the cell walls (hemicellulose) are broken down, transformed and recrystallized. The remaining elements close the cavities that become free. After this cell transformation, the wood absorbs hardly any water. This is why it does not swell and shrink even when exposed to high humidity. And it loses its tendency to warp and crack. Thermowood is therefore an ideal material for things that often come into contact with water.

We recommend that you rinse the soap dish thoroughly with hot water once before using it for the first time, so that any residue from the thermal treatment is removed.
