Smokehouse
General Information
Black Forest Smoke House. Newly interpreted
Unobtrusively pushes the cottage into the perception, when it spreads the scent of the incense candle in the room. The smoke disperses, as befits a well-ventilated building, through the milled exhaust hole in the roof. Designer Jan Hartmann took up a traditional construction method in the design of this smokehouse: Before the fireplace took hold, the Black Forest house was built as a so-called smoke house. Above the open fireplace, the smoke dispersed under the ceiling, where the ham was stored for smoking, and finally escaped via the smokehouse. In addition to the modified function, Hartmann also gave the smoke house a new look, which, with its purist design, fits decoratively into any contemporary interior.
Made from a single piece of solid wood, the smoke house is manufactured in a Black Forest workshop. Included are three incense candles with a fine sandalwood note; replacements and scent alternatives can be found in our range (our normal sized incense candles fit inside).
Cleansing and Soothing by Burning Incense.
The burning of fragrant plants, woods and resins is deeply rooted in spirituality and ancient customs. Whether it is traditional Chinese medicine, the sweat lodge of the indigenous peoples of America or the incense ceremonies of the Twelvetide: they all refer to the purifying power attributed to the burning of incense. Even if the cultic significance gradually receded into the background, the custom of burning incense was nevertheless preserved. We inevitably associate the scent of frankincense and myrrh, pine and sandalwood with a festive feeling of well-being – as if the scent of incense already contains a power that lifts the spirits and thus cleanses body and mind of troubles.
