This area is famous for its garden tool production workshops (in German: 'SHW'). The garden pick we offer here is of forged steel with sharpened working edges. It has an oiled ash handle with a convenient hole for hanging up in the shed and with the usual wedge-and-ring head attachment system.

The 'hoopoe' is absolutely ideal for preparing planting surfaces that have been neglected and are overgrown with tough roots. The axe section cuts through the roots, and the pick then loosens the soil. The head is not fastened to the handle – which has a conical shape, meaning that the head sits firmly on the handle only after being struck on the ground. This is a traditional procedure in southern Germany garden tool making, and has a practical purpose: between periods of use the wooden handle can shrink, making the head loose. With this system, the handle adjusts to the head automatically when it's next used. Carbon steel. Blade 21 x 12.5 cm. Axe 16.5 x 16 cm. Total length 105 cm. Weight 2.5 kg.
