Shaving jar porcelain
General Information
Beautiful and necessary: shaving jars
For wet shavers, the jar is an elementary tool: only in it, with a good shaving soap or cream and a good brush, can the fine, stiff-creamy lather be produced that enables a deep, long-lasting shave that is gentle on the skin.
This shaving jar from Mühle is made from porcelain that is pleasant to the touch. Thanks to the knob, it can be held securely in the hand. Thanks to the high rim, various shaving soaps fit inside and can be easily opened. A small elevation at the bottom ensures that the soap is stored dry until the next use.
Shaving Brush and Straight Razor by Mühle.
While not every craft business succeeds in balancing tradition and modernity, the Mühle shaving brush manufactory does: The still family-run company has preserved the traditional knowledge of the craft while welcoming new materials, manufacturing methods and contemporary designs. The manufactory in the Ore Mountains produces articles, 90% handmade, for wet shaving. The heart of the company is up to the present day the manufacturing of the shaving brush. The brush makers need a sure touch, a steady hand and a good eye to work with the fine badger hair. In the first step, they carefully sort the hair, weigh the fibres out to the tenth of a gram and then tap them into shape in a box. Then they take the 20,000 or so hairs with great care out of the moulding box and, without a single hair slipping out of place, tie them firmly into a tassel called loft. When they have finished the form of the loft, they glue and mount it on the handle of the shaving brush. They manufacture all brushes with extreme care, whether made of badger hair or special synthetic fibres; we offer both hair and fibres in a range of different qualities. Mühle produces the shaving brushes and razors in full at the company’s headquarters in Hundshübel. Parts are sourced as far as possible from the region.
From the Erzgebirge to all over the world. From a family business to a global brand.
Otto Johannes Müller manufactures the first shaving brush in his laundry room and thus lays, directly after the last world war the foundation of the company Mühle. The skilled brush and paintbrush maker also manufactures brushes and paintbrushes and other items of daily use, which were in short supply at the time, and at the same time begins to export his products all over the world with Mühle on them. Barely 20 years later, Mühle maintains trade relations in 36 countries, throughout Europe, but also in South America and even in the Orient, Mühle shaving brushes now provide the fine-pored shaving foam on the skin. Like many other private companies in the GDR, Mühle cannot escape nationalization, but founder son Hans Jürgen Müller seizes the opportunity to reprivatize immediately after the fall of the Wall - a real new beginning, as it soon turns out, because hardly any of the former customers and employees remain. Like his grandfather and father before him, and son Christian after him, Hans Jürgen still learned the brush maker's trade, which was threatened with extinction, so that he now has to - and indeed can - put the family knowledge to full use again. He modernizes the production and in the course of the following years expands the product range to include shaving razors, bowls and everything else that the morning ritual of wet shaving requires. The Mühle collection in the historic barber shop next to the manufactory, which presents the history of shaving and the company in equal measure with museum utensils, demonstrates the close ties to tradition that still exist today. Today, the scepter is in the hands of the third generation. Andreas and Christian Müller have continuously expanded the vertical range of manufacture at the company's headquarters, so that shaving brushes and planes are now once again produced here on a fully integrated basis. Whenever possible, Mühle obtains its supplies from regional producers. A consistent continuation of this ecological and resource-saving production is also the development of a care series that meets the requirements of natural cosmetics.
