Shaving brush pig bristle
General Information
Semogue and the Owners Club
Hitherto, the Portuguese shaving brush maker led a rather modest existence in international comparison, but with the resurgence of wet shaving in recent years, this changed. The good reputation found its way abroad, fans of the brand even founded a forum, the "Semogue Owners Club", to exchange views on the products. They were also the ones who suggested Semogue to reintroduce the brush of the 2009 limited edition in a modified version - namely with a shorter brush. The handle shape, material (wood) and trim quality were to remain unchanged. Semogue implemented the idea and named the shaving brush "Semogue Owners Club" in honor of the fan forum. In our model, the handle is turned from hand-flattering cherry wood and trimmed with strong pig bristle.
Strong bristle. Powerful massage
For shaving brushes was valid for a long time: badger hair it must be! And still the extremely soft, fine badger hair silver tip is unsurpassed at the top when it comes to whipping up good shaving soap to the finest, creamy foam. If you want to keep it a little cheaper and also prefer a stronger massage effect when lathering up, you should reach for the stronger alternative made of pig bristle. A shaving brush trim of thicker pig hair is much firmer, because it is more densely bound, therefore also needs a little more time than badger hair to moisten with water. You can calmly soak it in lukewarm water for a few minutes before shaving, so that the hair can soak up and is flexible enough. Then simply spin out the brush and only with the tip of the brush to lather the soap and a little water.
Portugal's Shaving Brush Manufacture. Semogue
For quite some time, Lisbon merchant António Augusto da Cruz had been looking for an experienced shaving brush maker who could produce brushes for his house brand Excelsior. In the north of Portugal, he finally met Francisco dos Santos Gomes, who accepted the offer, but with the condition that Gomes not only produce for Excelsior, but also be allowed to sell shaving brushes under his own name - Semogue, meaning Gomes backwards with the suffix added. Since 1955 Excelsior sold in the south, Semogue in the north of the country, so they did not get in each other's way. Finally, 20 years later, Gomes took over the partner company, brought in his son in addition to his father, and expanded the company, which is still family-run today. Produced is still by (currently five) experienced shaving brush makers at the headquarters of Semogue, south of Porto.
