Shading mat wooden slats

Young plants are sensitive creatures. Excessive sunlight heating up the environment can burn their delicate foliage, their root system is not yet sufficiently developed to supply the plant with sufficient nutrients in hot and dry conditions, and a heavy rain or storm can bring the entire plant to an abrupt end. Young plants therefore require special protection - especially in view of the extreme weather conditions that climate change is increasingly causing.

Tried-and-tested protection is provided by covers such as this shading mat made of wooden slats: it can be spread effortlessly over the small greenhouse, cold frame or raised bed and removed just as easily - allowing you to react spontaneously even to unforeseen weather events. Depending on availability, the manufacturer makes the shade mat from spruce or pine wood and links the individual slats together using sturdy wire loops. Thanks to the wire loop construction, the mat can be shortened (and lengthened again) to a desired dimension by decoupling (and reconnecting) the individual slats.

This way, the wooden mat keeps out rain, wind, and strong sunlight - but still allows air to circulate and enough light to ensure plant growth. Another benefit that not only your emerging plants, but also your "adult" plants will appreciate: Rolled out over the greenhouse, the shade mat prevents the air inside from heating up too much (in an unprotected greenhouse, sustained strong sunlight quickly reaches 50 to 60 °C, a temperature that even robust plants have no chance of withstanding). And stretched over the cold frame or raised bed frame, the mat does not sag like a film or cloth, even after a long time, thanks to its solid slat construction.
