Seed set in a wooden box
General Information
The package contains:
Black hollyhock (Alcea rosea var. nigra) This hollyhock is a particularly impressive variety of the well-known ornamental and medicinal plant with cupped, almost black flowers that glow a deep, dark red against the light. With this fascinating flower color and the imposing height of up to 2 m, the plant has an enormous long-distance effect - in the country garden as well as in the magnificent perennial bed. It is usually a biennial, but reproduces abundantly. New flowers open from July to September, providing food for numerous insects.
Patagonian verbena (Verbena bonariensis)With its typical spiky growth and small purple flower umbrellas that seem to float above the beds, this plant exudes an airy, light, delicate effect and enriches any garden in summer and fall, as it flowers from July to October. On the one hand, this pleases numerous insects, and on the other, the plant, which grows up to 1.5 m tall, also provides the best cut flowers for the vase. Verbena is particularly popular in new plants - it quickly closes the gaps that are still present at the beginning, but then makes way for slower-growing perennials in the following years. Verbena itself is rather short-lived; however, in a suitable location it is easily maintained by sowing seeds and thus migrates through the garden.
Corn poppy 'Von Reconvilier' (Papaver rhoeas) This historic corn poppy variety impresses with its wide range of colors: from completely white to almost dark red, it displays numerous shades of color and blends perfectly into any planting. In July and August, the magnificent, silky, glossy flowers appear on stems around 80 cm high. They are suitable for cutting for naturalistic bouquets; the seed capsules can be used for dried arrangements. With its deep taproot, the poppy is ideal for dry places.
Snapdragon mixture (Antirrhinum majus)Snapdragon originates from the rather dry Mediterranean zones, where it grows wild in crevices and walls. However, it has also been cultivated as a garden and cut flower since the 15th century and therefore belongs firmly in the repertoire of annual garden flowers, not least because of its extraordinarily rich color spectrum. From white to yellow, orange and salmon to deep dark red, it blooms throughout the season from June to September; even bicolored flowers are common. The flowers are particularly popular with bumblebees. Snapdragons grow to a height of 50-80 cm and seed well in the garden.
Night violet (Hesperis matronalis)The pretty night violet enchants with its sweeping, sweet fragrance in the summer evenings. It should therefore be placed near the patio so that the fragrance, reminiscent of vanilla, almond and jasmine, can be enjoyed intensely. With its bright purple flowers from May to August, the night violet is a wonderful rose companion, it enhances any flower border and is typically found in cottage gardens - it is also well suited as a cut flower. Its flowers feed wild bees and moths, while its leaves feed the caterpillars of numerous butterflies, some of which are now rare. The biennial to perennial plant, which can grow up to 70 cm tall, will reliably reproduce in a suitable location.
Bearded carnationmixture (Dianthus barbatus)The bearded carnation is a biennial to perennial summer flower that we offer in a richly flowering mixture of colors from white to deep dark red. It grows up to 40 cm tall and is extremely suitable as a long-lasting cut flower. The slightly fragrant flowers grow in dense clusters. As a typical biennial plant, the lush rosette of leaves develops after sowing and the flowers appear the following year from May to the end of July. Untypically, the bearded carnation then usually continues to flower for another year! It also pollinates well.
Marigold mixture (Calendula officinalis)This medicinal plant, known since time immemorial, is a classic in kitchen and cottage gardens. Its antiseptic properties are mainly used in skin care and cleansing products and for rapid wound healing. As "poor people's saffron", marigold flowers were also used to color butter or rice in the past; as a good cut flower, the plant is indispensable for many summer bouquets from your own garden. The annual flower, which grows up to 40 cm tall, blooms bright yellow-orange from May until the first heavy frosts. It tolerates light frosts well, so the plant often continues to adorn the winter garden. It constantly reseeds itself during the season, so that new plants and flowers continue to develop for months on end, even in the following year, without becoming a nuisance. As a small "calendar", as the Latin name of the genus translates, calendula indicates the course of the sun: Its flowers are closed at night and open during the day.
Lady's bellflower (Campanula medium)The lady's bellflower originally comes from southern Europe, but has been native to our gardens since the 16th century. It has always been most commonly found in cottage gardens. It blooms from May to July with beautiful, bright purple bell-shaped flowers and provides food for numerous wild bees and butterfly caterpillars. With its bushy, multi-shoot growth, it reaches up to 1 m in height. As a biennial plant, it dies back after flowering, but has already gathered plenty of seeds and will reappear in many other places in the garden the following year.
