Secret Santa felt
General Information
Lovable lucky charms
Life without elves is simply unthinkable, at least in Scandinavia. There, the tiny and helpful creatures with the white razzle-dazzle beards and high, pointed caps are very revered. Everyone knows an elf, and everyone in Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland knows exactly where their elf lives, whether in the cellar, under the stairs or in the woodshed, whether in the woods behind the house or in the church around the corner. Among so many elves, the Christmas elves, the industrious helpers of Santa Claus, must of course not be forgotten! The "Julenisse" are given a bowl of porridge or rice pudding for Christmas, because these dishes are very popular among gnomes and make them so happy that they will continue to haunt the house as lucky charms next year. You should definitely treat them to such a Christmas feast, because an elf, as lovable as he may be, can become a little displeased if he is not properly appreciated. Then he remembers his origins as a goblin and likes to make one or two things disappear.
So if you include these charming hand-felted Christmas gnomes in your holiday decorations, you better not forget to put, for example, a cookie plate nearby. Because even if the gnomes are made of pure New Zealand virgin wool, so you can not be fully sure that they do not awaken to life at night, when everything is asleep, and look around a little in the house, yard and basement ...
A Fair Collaboration. Gry & Sif
During her backpacking tour through Nepal, the Dane Gry Staunstrup got to know the astonishing openness and warmth of the country’s inhabitants, and their craftsmanship bedazzled her. She was able to observe in detail how adeptly and skilfully Nepalese women felted wool into a wide variety of objects. Staunstrup felt it was time to make something good out of the untapped potential, and an idea was born: to combine Nepalese handicrafts with Danish design. And the idea was immediately followed by action.
The company Gry & Sif started producing a variety of products made of wool felt in Nepal in 2000. The designs created by Gry Staunstrup are as remarkable as they are understated and, characteristic of Danish design, at the same time fresh and merry. Nepalese women turn them into products employing traditional handicrafts. Fair Trade certified by now, Gry & Sif stands for fair wages and working conditions, environmentally conscious production and transparency. The company exclusively sources pure new wool from New Zealand sheep for the felting; each of the resulting products is handmade and unique.
