Schlenker doll Lotte
General Information
Looping and grinding. Free play for the imagination
Pleasantly soft, cuddly and easily held by children with one hand (or arm): With a loving hearty grip on the arm or leg, Lotte can be swung through the world (or dragged along behind her). The transition from the doll's body to her arms and legs is stuffed a little looser, giving the doll her supple mobility.
Above all, Lotte can do much more than be rocked in a doll carriage. This child doll is designed for emotional and physical closeness: Handcrafted, she is made entirely of natural materials. Body and clothes are sewn from cotton fabric; the doll is filled with pure sheep's wool. Her clothes can be changed - so it doesn't matter if the expression of affection is a little more intense (and wet). Instead of sleeping in a doll's bed, Lotte likes to sleep with her offspring, who can confidently snuggle up to her like a classic cuddly toy when she falls asleep. If the worst comes to the worst, hand-washing the rag doll can help it become clean again.
Thanks to the reduced and at the same time clear design, especially of the face, a child's imagination can freely unfold when playing with this puppet. Perfect to rely on even in everyday (role-play) situations: for example, as a partner in raising the sibling, as a fearless support in the fight against pirates or as an advisor in the transformation of lunch noodles into a hair care product.
Silke. Kösener toys extended by tradition
The first Kösen doll factory was founded by Käthe Kruse in 1912. However, after the GDR was founded in 1949, the collaboration with the famous doll maker soon came to an end. What remained in Bad Kösen were the special doll-making skills that had developed over four decades: the company specialized in the production of soft toys. The collaboration with the neighboring Burg Giebichenstein - one of the most important training centers for product design in Germany since the beginning of the 20th century - which had grown even longer in the meantime, meant that the design requirements also grew steadily.
Since 2000, the rag dolls and stuffed animals of the traditional label "Silke" have complemented the Kösen workshops. The production of this company, originally based in Munich, also moved to Bad Kösen. Carefully handcrafted rag dolls are created there that are in no way inferior to the plush toys from Kösen. The design is of purist clarity, with elaborate cuts ensuring their expert realization. And the high-quality natural materials of European origin impress with the durability that is characteristic of Kösener toys.
Dangling to a Jolly Tune.
Scientists agree that the upright gait marks a decisive step in human evolution. But why we swing our arms when we walk has long puzzled researchers. To them, the extra arm swinging seemed like a relic of human prehistory and, above all, a waste of energy. Studies of the movement sequence now support the opposite view: the rhythmic swinging of the arms in the opposite direction to the progress of the legs actually saves (muscle) energy. The effect occurs because the swinging of the arms cushions the up-and-down movement of walking and spares the leg muscles some of the tensile stress. As a bonus, we keep our balance better and reduce the risk of stumbling when swinging the arms. That’s why, in a way, swinging a toy aids a child in walking. The cuddly playmate encourages the children to swing their arms along while helping them to keep their balance. That frees energy for all the important things in life.
