Root walking stick hazelnut
General Information
Support and hold. Uphill, downhill
For a rootstock like this, the blanks must grow for about 15 years before they can be harvested. After a one-year drying period, they can then be processed. The hazel wood used comes from the company's own plantation. The pommel, which is handcrafted from the root piece, is rounded to perfectly fit the natural shape of the hand when gripping. The stick is equipped with a mountain stick ferrule - a deep-drawn metal ferrule with a solid, nickel-plated tip - and a leather strap as a wrist loop. Its surface is bark-proof and satin lacquered, which allows the beauty of the natural-grown material to come into its own.
Tool, not ornament. Hiking sticks from Gastrock
Whoever says hiking stick actually means Gastrock - and has done so for 150 years, because the fifth-generation family business is not only one of the last, but also one of the best in its class. Gastrock began at a time when "edelweiss and stick nail" were still indispensable to the hiking stick, but the art of stick making has remained until today. It rests on three pillars: on a lot of manual work, on a partly decades-old machine park from own development and on experience of many years. The basis of Gastrock's canes is selected naturally grown wood, which is first stored after harvesting. It takes more than 30 work steps to get from the seasoned wood to the finished walking stick: from cleaning, steeping via steam and hot bending, to straightening, grinding and polishing, and finally drying.
What leaves the plant is unique German stick-making art that has spread around the world, including commissioned work - for example, Gastrock supplies the sticks for Francesco Maglia's umbrellas. We've selected tried-and-true hiking poles in classic designs. Traditional models from nature and for use in nature, each of which is a unique piece of craftsmanship.
