Rape candle Weck® jar

If you travel to Schleswig-Holstein in April and May, you will pass many yellow rapeseed fields, which set the wide, hilly landscape in a particularly beautiful light. Rapeseed has always been one of the most important sources of oil here, but is also important for crop rotation in agriculture, partly because it can break chains of infection in cereal diseases. While rapeseed oil was primarily used for lamp oil or lubricating oil for industry and soap production until the middle of the 19th century, it was soon replaced by cheap petroleum-based fuels and edible oils from overseas. It is only since the 1970s that rapeseed oil can also be used as cooking oil and animal feed, thanks to new varieties that contain almost no bitter erucic acid. Since then, the area under cultivation has been steadily increasing and the possible uses have also been further developed.

This not only has the advantage of being a regional, renewable raw material that can be procured via short transportation routes, but the candles are also purely plant-based and completely free of harmful substances. Rapeseed wax is also very suitable as a carrier for scented oils, which are initially safely enclosed in the wax and only develop their full aroma when the candle burns. In this case, it is pure essential oils that give the candles their pleasant fragrance. They come with a candle holder in the shape of a classic Weck® jar with a lid - and are therefore ready for immediate use.
