Pleterje candle set

General Information
Carthusian Handicrafts from Slovenia.
Where do bees get wax from? They secrete it themselves! Bees eat honey. The sugar from the honey is converted into wax by the bee’s special wax-producing glands which make small wax flakes that appear on the bee’s abdomen. These wax scales are then mixed with the bee’s saliva during mastication to soften the wax, which the bee then uses to construct the honeycomb. The honeycomb undergoes several beekeeping processes before pure beeswax is produced. This beautiful set of candles comes from the Carthusians at the Pleterje Charterhouse in Slovenia. If being purchased as a gift, their presentation does away with the need for wrapping paper. The candles are handmade from beeswax from the Carthusians hives. They are mounted on a small wooden shingle, together with a clay candlestick, also made by hand.
