Plant element for wall mounting

Urban gardeners often desperately look for room for their greenery as every centimetre of space is precious on standard balconies. This clever planting system offers a welcome gain in space by allowing the use of the nearby walls. (That is if you don’t want to use the planter as a design element in the living space or the kitchen, for example, to create a herb garden. Both variants are possible).

The starting point is a wall element similar to the familiar treasure box, easily installed thanks to an enclosed drilling template. Arranged solo or in groups, the elements immediately transform a drab wall into a green oasis. The recycled plastic frame holds nine compartments (12 × 12 cm each). Filled with substrate beforehand, these boxes are ready to receive the plants of your choice. A recess allows you to pour water into the system that collects excess water and makes it available later to the plants.

Plants with more petite root balls are your best choice for this system. Young plants – maybe you select some from your own pre-breeding – grow just as well in the square compartments. Besides, greenery planted vertically usually needs a little more attention than that placed in pots. Please regularly check to see if the plants need water (on hot summer days, if possible, several times a day) or if one of the plants may have come loose from the compound. If more extensive maintenance work is necessary (cleaning out, pruning, etc.), you can easily remove the element from the wall.
