    Wine belongs to the picnic

The French regard Saint Vincent as the patron saint of their winegrowers, and his name day in January is even celebrated in Burgundy. What could be more natural than to name a sommelier knife after him? It comes from the cutlery specialists at Goyon Chazeau in the knife town of Thiers in Auvergne and naturally offers all the applications of a classic sommelier knife. And yet there is one thing about this knife that is particularly noteworthy - apart from the absolutely lavish workmanship. Because where other waiter's cutlery has the small blade for cutting into the capsule, this one has a full-sized, forged and sharpened pocket knife blade made of Sandvik® steel. Because with a picnic comes a good bottle of wine - and with good wine comes a good saucisson, a decent piece of cheese, crusty freshly baked baguette and some fruit. Goyon-Chazeau has developed this knife in collaboration with the cutler Robert Beillonnet, famous in professional circles and awarded several times "Meilleur Ouvrier de France" (Best Craftsman of France).

    Excellent Cutlery Production. Coutellerie Goyon-Chazeau.

Since 1953 you find the Coutellerie Goyon-Chazeau seven kilometres east of the French city of knives, Thiers in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. While there used to be numerous smithies in the region, which has been known for its cutlery for seven centuries, the knife manufacture in La Monnerie-le-Montel is now one of the few that still cultivates traditional craft techniques. True to their conviction, they produce completely locally. In 2013, the French state awarded the third-generation family business a label, the EPV (Entreprise du Patrimoine Vivant), for its commitment to preserving traditional craftsmanship in cutlery production.
