Cone and crown are produced at the same time in order to match perfectly. The fineness ranges from 1 (powder) to 6 (coarsely pounded) and can be adjusted by a bridge in the base. The grinding process takes place in two phases: after they are crushed by coarse teeth the spices are then ground to the desired fineness with the fine teeth. You can check on the grade of fineness any time with the scale at the base. It doesn’t need readjusting after use, as the top screw is only used for loading the grinder.
