By ‘classic’ we refer to its shape and finish: our thermometer dispenses with all unnecessary ‘decoration’: it’s a single, no-fuss, easy-to-read affair, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use; in fact an archetypal thermometer! The body is made of pure die-cast zinc, in contrast to the thermoplastic that’s mostly used nowadays. The advantages of die-cast zinc are two-fold: firstly, it remains break-resistant for years, secondly, it gets a nice-looking patina with the passing of time. In these days of mass-production, we can truly say that its origins are somewhat unusual. It’s finished by an experienced firm in Baden-Wurttemberg. The body comes from the industrial centre of Wuppertal, famous for metal work. The glass with the capillary tube however is produced in Ilmenau, in Thuringia, a town that has specialized in high-class measurement and glass instruments for 150 years now. In other words ‘made in Germany’, but within this country we’ve chosen the three best areas.
