The oat shoe
General Information
Oat Shoe. Craft and fashion.
Historical and contemporary at the same time, the Haferlschuh is just as it can be a work or fashion shoe, depending on the design. Reason enough for Schuh Bertl, specialist for welted and goat-sewn shoes from Munich, to dedicate an entire book to him together with the specialist book author Helge Sternke. And one thing becomes immediately clear when reading: the Haferl shoe is far more than a folkloric Bavarian shoe. The authors explore its entire diversity from its origins to the present day: They show the construction and design of the last as well as the selection and preparation of the leather and the handicraft way to the finished shoe - and all this in a clear and generally understandable way. But the book not only informs about the production of Haferl shoes, but also about manufacturers, associations and institutions - they are introduced in short portraits. Finally, a separate chapter is dedicated to shoe care, and the accompanying DVD shows the shoe Bertl at work.
