A half cavity is the name given to this form of nest box. Not quite closed like the classic nesting box with a small entrance opening (preferred by cavity breeders such as titmouse, nuthatch, sparrow and starling), but still less open than a nest built freely in the landscape or in a tree (which blackbirds or chaffinches, for example, like to occupy). A half cave, in other words, made of native larch wood and with its relatively large opening that lets plenty of light into the nesting space, completely tailored to the needs of niche nesting birds such as dippers, wagtails, robins or redstarts. Natural disorder is missing almost everywhere in our tidy landscape.
