There's animal diversity at play
A quartet lives from its cards. A naturally designed garden thrives on the strengths of the animals that inhabit it. Earthworms wriggle in the soil and turn it into humus. Bees, bumblebees and butterflies dance on flowers and blossoms, providing pollination naturally. Hedgehogs snort in the foliage and consume vast numbers of slugs. Ladybugs flutter in the air destroying aphids in droves, aided by garden birds in search of food for their young. What do we learn from this? Where rock gardens degenerate into lifeless gravel deserts, life rages in a naturalistic garden, and the dedicated gardener receives natural support for pest control, growing fruits, vegetables and ornamentals. In other words, if we win this quartet, nature wins too. After all, a garden or balcony animal-friendly can only who knows the rules - and holds the right cards in his hand.
