Of all the parts of the cowhide the neck is the most durable. In constant motion, the neck alternately contracts and relaxes, directly influencing the fiber structure. Combined with the rough surface the characteristic striations running the length of the leather make ox neck leather ideal for blotters and mouse pads.
For the rigors of everyday work: cow neck leather
Of all the skin parts of the cow, the most durable leather can be tanned from the neck. Here the skin of the living animal is in constant motion and so exposed to changing tension, with immediate effects on the fiber structure. Neck leather has characteristic grooves that run through it lengthwise; through them and the slightly rough surface may be considered neck leather as the first choice for writing pads and mouse pads.
