Moor frog lime wood hand-carved

The moor frog is one of our smaller native frog species and can typically be recognized by the light to dark brown colouring of its skin. Only during the spawning season in spring do the males develop an intense blue coloration and thus attract the attention of the females in their territory. Bog frogs prefer to colonize habitats with high groundwater levels, such as moorland, swamp forests, wet meadows and marshy grassland or the softwood floodplains of larger rivers. Their range extends from western Central Europe across Eastern Europe to Siberia. In Germany, the animals, which belong to the frog family within the order of frogs, can only be found in greater numbers in the north and east. In other parts of the country, the moor frog is highly endangered and is therefore listed as "strictly protected" in the Federal Nature Conservation Act.

Our exceptionally lifelike specimen of the moor frog made of lime wood is hardly in need of protection. It comes from villages in Manchuria, where woodcarving has a long tradition. Farmers in the region use this and other woodwork to fill the long winter months and earn an additional income. The water-based paints used to paint the wood are also applied by hand.

This product is an example of genuine handicraft; therefore, minor deviations in size and colour may occur.
