Möbius ring silver
General Information
Inside and outside. In one
In 1858, Leipzig mathematician and astronomer August Ferdinand Möbius caused a sensation when he twisted the ends of a strip of paper and glued them together to form a figure with only one surface and one edge - the Möbius strip. The fascinating mathematical-geometric construct inspired the jewelry manufacturer Guthmann to create this ring. Unlike the Möbius original, it consists of a double-twisted narrow band, giving it a more filigree appearance. The fascination, however, is the same: with him, too, the surfaces cannot be distinguished according to the criteria below and above or inside and outside.
Jewelry from Pforzheim. Martin Guthmann
Making high-quality crafted jewelry affordable for as many people as possible - with this in mind, goldsmith Martin Guthmann founded his jewelry manufactory in 1906. Today, run by his great-grandson in the fourth generation, the family business still produces entirely in the jewelry and gold city of Pforzheim. In the manufactory, rolled, stamped, drawn and cast parts are assembled by hand into small series. Among other things, old jewelry forms and ornaments from the company's own history are incorporated into the design: they are cast and - using historical manufacturing techniques - transferred to our time.

In a manner of speaking it is, in mathematical terms, to some extent a geometrical piece of jewelry, a smart ring from jewelry manufacturer Guthmann. Its origins date back to 1858 when the mathematician and astronomer, August Ferdinand Möbius (1790 to 1868) from Leipzig attracted great attention when he turned the ends of a paper strip once and then glued them together thus creating a piece with only one surface and one edge – the Möbius strip. By mistake, the Möbius strip is sometimes interpreted as the mathematical symbol for eternity. It would be more appropriate to understand this symbol as the symbol for communication. Just as this ring merges into one single piece, in communication the inner and outer worlds effectively amalgamate.
