Kitchen slicer
Whether steamed, stewed or layered in a gratin dish, whether fermented or raw - the preparation of many vegetable dishes begins with slicing the fresh ingredients. That's why a tool like this is part of the basic equipment in every kitchen. The six long, razor-sharp blades of this coarse grater - or is it a slicer? - from the Microplane range not only cut raw vegetables into wafer-thin slices, they also remove shavings or flakes of Parmesan, truffles or chocolate coating. This means that the slicer is even useful for baking, for example when chocolate flakes are used to decorate a cake or as a melt-in-the-mouth ingredient in cake batter.
Cutting, not grating
These graters are razor sharp. Their many small blades are not simply punched out of the material, but precisely photo-etched. That's why the blades are so sharp - and stay that way, because they hardly wear out even when the graters are used frequently. Citrus peel, for example, is cut, not crushed, and retains its taste, aroma and vitamins. Chocolate and hard cheese can be sliced into fine flakes, while potatoes and vegetables retain their texture.
The graters are made by Microplane in the USA (although the individual parts are assembled in China). Stainless steel is used for all metal parts. The neatly crafted wooden handle inserts are made of walnut wood from Kentucky.
