Men's Panama Hat

The summer straw hat shields the field worker from unwholesome sunshine, and it crowns the casual elegance of the urban flâneur. One of its most famous designs is the Panama hat. It has been hand-woven in Ecuador for several centuries, from the fibers of the toquilla palm (Carludovica palmata), actually a type of reed. It became popular worldwide during the construction of the Panama Canal, which gave it its name. This Panama hat is formally based on the fedora, which was once an essential part of men's clothing as a "gentleman's hat" and is still one of the most popular hat styles today. Inside it is equipped with a sweatband, the trim is made of black ribbed band.

When Leonhard Mayser opened his "Hutmacherey" in Ulm in 1800, he could hardly have imagined that Mayser hats would one day become a global brand, with an annual production of 3.5 million pieces in 1963, a record year (unsurpassed to date). Today, the production figures are far lower, but Mayser can still call itself a global brand with sales markets in 44 countries. The secret to the success of the company based in Lindenberg in the Allgäu, the former "Little Paris" of hat fashion, has remained the same for more than two centuries: Quality. While design, purchasing and sales are still based in the Allgäu, production was relocated to Slovakia in 2002. Mayser built its own factory there and also trains its own staff.
