Men's lace-up boot

Formally, this shoe is very close to the chukka boot, that comfortable classic shoe that was first worn by polo players during breaks between sections of the game (the "chukkas") to relax their feet, before finding its way into the everyday wardrobe. Moma, however, makes it not from rough leather but from smooth leather. To be more precise, it's made of soft, strikingly textured calfskin, which, in combination with the strong leather sole that's rough on the sides, gives the shoe a distinct "used look." The outsole and heel are covered with rubber, making the shoe weatherproof and thus practical for everyday wear. The laces run through three pairs of eyelets.

Gigio and Daniele Gironacci decided in 1992 that they no longer wanted to make shoes in descended simplicity. Instead, they expanded their shoemaking business into a kind of laboratory for their profession. Since then, craftspeople, artists, and designers have come together in their workshop in the Marche region in central Italy to reinvent the shoemaking craft. The Gironaccis are convinced the creative exchange is the solution because merely well-made is much less than perfect.

By the way, the acronym Moma stands for “Midnight over my action”, which translates to “to take counsel with one’s pillow”. You find the corresponding guiding principle of artistically creative and at the same time well thought-out craftsmanship implemented in Moma’s workflow.
