Unusual for knitwear the cotton is processed into tightly twisted yarn and washed twice in caustic soda (i.e. mercerised). The mercerising prevents shrinking and gives the garment a unique sheen and exceptional smooth texture. Zimmerli underwear is extremely elastic lengthways and sideways, without synthetic additives. Accurate checking of the seams, multiple ironing and the final assembly take up one-quarter of the entire production process.
