Menorca Avarcas cowhide

The Avarca sandal is a traditional worker's shoe, as worn by Menorcan farmers already in the 19th century. The combination of sturdy rubber sole and straps made of cowhide predestined them for the warm climate and dry, stony soil of the island. Today, the sandal has become synonymous with the Mediterranean lifestyle. In keeping with this tradition, the Castell manufactory has been producing these classic models with narrow heel straps since 1985. Characteristic of the sandal, in addition to the black tread sole made from recycled car tires and the small toe opening, is above all the extremely durable, prominent hand stitching. The white sandal is made of smooth leather, while the blue and sand-colored ones are made of suede leather. Up to size 41, the Avarcas are made on a women's last, from size 42 on a slightly wider men's last.

Since it was founded over 30 years ago, the Spanish manufacturer Castell has been committed to traditional footwear craftsmanship - and produces its sandals by hand as far as possible. Castell also continues to produce at its namesake company headquarters to this day. With the "Made in Spain" label, they carry the island's heritage out into the world. No other manufactory in Menorca adheres so consistently to traditional production, local craftsmanship and the "spirit" of the Balearic Islands.
