Manufactum garden chest oak wood

A beautiful, solid piece of furniture that holds the seat cushions of your garden furniture in its spacious interior throughout the summer. Or sandpit toys, badminton rackets, handcarts and the red slide car, clothespins and carpet beaters, garden equipment, tools - and maybe even charcoal and barbecue accessories. The front and sides of the chest are made of untreated oak, while the base and rear panel are made of moisture-resistant screen-printed board. The lid has a frame construction and is covered with a zinc sheet support; two gas pressure dampers hold it up when open and ensure that it closes gently thanks to their braking effect. It is so stable that the chest can also be used as a seat without any problems. The open slats incorporated at the sides ensure good ventilation inside the chest - but they also mean that the furniture is not waterproof. Please bear this in mind when positioning the chest and when selecting the items to be stored.

This patio furniture is made for us in a Lüneburg furniture workshop from weather-resistant oak wood in a cleated and solid design: The longitudinal frames are secured using metric screw connections with cross-threaded bolts and the cross frames are glued to be waterproof. The shelves are covered with solid sheet zinc - that lasts; in France, for example, sheet zinc has a long tradition as a work surface on kitchen tables. The feet are fitted with plastic glides to keep moisture out from underneath and protect patio tiles.

Due to the high tannic acid content of oak wood, blue-black discoloration can occur on the wood surface in combination with moisture and in contact with ferrous metals. In addition, the so-called tannins can be washed out by rainwater and stain surfaces and adjacent materials.
