Linen tea towel rhombus
General Information
Rhombs and diamonds. For hands and dishes
The linen for this tea towel is obtained from the best Belgian long fiber flax. Thanks to its average basis weight of 272 gsm, the linen towel is suitable for both dishes and hands, making it a versatile, absorbent aid in the kitchen. That's because linen is naturally stain-resistant, anti-static and low-linting, and it gets softer with each wash. Because of its initial stiffness, we recommend washing it two or three times before first use so that it develops its full absorbency.
Incidentally, the pattern with the different-sized rhombuses is a modern version of the classic "gåsöga" ("goose eye"), a traditional Swedish pattern. Visually rather simple, it is complex to produce and must be made on a jacquard loom. Another special feature are the selvedges on the long sides of the tea towel. They are created when the loom is specially set up for the respective width of the woven fabric and the weft thread is not simply cut off, but continued endlessly. Thus, only the upper and lower cut edge must be hemmed.
Craft with tradition. Iris Hantverk
Brush making is traditionally a branch of work in which the blind and people with visual impairments can be trained. This is also how Iris Hantverk originated at the beginning of the 20th century as a company founded by the Swedish Association for the Blind, and it continues in this tradition today: craftsmen with visual impairments in Sweden and Estonia still make brooms and brushes entirely by hand. Since the 1950s, they benefited from government support, but this was frozen in 2012. As a result, the owner at the time decided to sell Iris Hantverk. Richard Sparrenhök and Sara Edhäll, both long-time employees, had long since lost their hearts to the small brush-making workshop in Sandsborgsvägen, Enskede, and promptly bought it to ensure its continued existence. Since then, they have expanded the portfolio and produce functional items for household, bathroom and kitchen, combining natural materials, solid craftsmanship and good design.
