Legespiel Mr. Jacob
General Information
Little Mr. Jakob. A little bit man - a little bit child.
The figure of little Mr. Jakob with his bowler hat on his head and the stories around him were penned by Hans Jürgen Press (1926-2002), who not only made a name for himself as a cartoonist and illustrator, but also became famous with books on nature and knowledge topics as well as with game and puzzle books, including the children's classic "The adventures of the 'black hand'" (sic). Sixty years have passed since little Mr. Jakob first saw the light of day in "Sternchen," the children's page of Magazins "Stern." His adventures, however, and of course he himself are detached from time and fashions; funny, full of mischief, imaginative, with a lot of humor and mind, he solves the little problems of everyday life in his own way.
Stories without words.
As short as the adventures are - they are each presented on only four individual cards -, each comes without a word, without a speech bubble. The attraction of the game is therefore first to bring the scenes depicted on the cards in the right order, so that a coherent plot arises in the first place. Then follows the smiling about the same: when goldfish swimming in a circle are released from their aquarium into the river, only to swim there again in a circle around themselves; or when Mr. Jakob finds an ice cream cone extension in the form of even more ice cream cones, so that the giraffe in the zoo doesn't have to bend its neck if it wants to lick at the ice cream; or when his resourceful dog tricks him into occupying Jakob's chair. The degree of difficulty of the stories varies, but their plot is always clear; so they are also well suited, for example, to guess their course or the last scene.
