Lamb wool blanket panama weave

When you grip this light and fabulously soft blanket, you hardly believe that it is wool from sheep, so fine and supple it is. This is because the wool used comes from lambs: Lamb wool is obtained during the very first shearing of the animals and is particularly soft and fine with a fiber fineness of 21 microns. For the blanket, the lambswool yarn is woven in the so-called Panama weave. It corresponds to the plain weave, but several parallel threads are used in the warp and weft. This creates a kind of checkerboard pattern, which is very subtle here thanks to the natural tones and only reveals itself on closer inspection.
In both color variations of our lambswool blanket, the fringes are light - they are created from the undyed, light warp yarn. The dyed, darker lambswool yarn is used in the weft. After weaving, the surface is slightly roughened by means of space machines tipped with natural thistles, which gives the blanket an even softer feel.

The blanket is manufactured by Steinbeck in Memmingen, Swabia. Initially founded by the Haussmann brothers under their name, the blanket and cloth factory can look back on almost 150 years of experience. To this day, it produces in its own spinning, dyeing, weaving and finishing facilities in northern Germany as well as at the company’s Swabian headquarters. When the Haussmanns stopped production at the end of the 1990s, Horst Steinbeck, a long-time employee of them, was able to take over the company and part of the staff, thus securing the wealth of experience. However, he had to look for a new production site. When he found a suitable location in northern Germany, he transferred all the machines from Swabia in order to be able to continue full-scale production. To this day, the textile manufactory pays special attention to selecting the best raw materials: They come primarily from German shepherds with small flocks or from Italy.
