Rauma makes this beanie from two different wool yarns: a carded yarn made from robust Norwegian virgin wool and a yarn made from soft merino wool. The latter is used for the rib-knitted cuff, which is turned inwards and sewn. The double layer increases the warmth function on the forehead and ears and the softness of the merino wool makes it feel good against the skin. Merino wool is particularly supple and does not scratch, making the beanie comfortable to wear even for people who are sensitive to wool.

Founded in 1927 by Erling Digernes in the Romsdalen Valley in western Norway, the company is now the leading Norwegian manufacturer of handmade wool and one of the most important yarn suppliers for specialist retailers. Rauma obtains the raw wool for the yarns from Norilia, a subsidiary of the Norwegian agricultural cooperative Nortura: it works closely with the local groups of the Norwegian Sheep and Goat Breeders' Association (NSG) to collect the wool from the breeding farms. This ensures short distances within the manufacturing process. Norwegian wool is known for its durability, luster and elasticity. As the climate in Norway is extremely harsh and the sheep live outside all year round, they have developed a dense coat with fine, crimped wool fibers, which insulates particularly well against the cold and has excellent heat-regulating properties. In addition, the extreme climatic conditions ensure that the wool remains free of parasites, so there is no need for chemical treatment after shearing. In addition to yarns, Rauma has also been producing its own collections of pure Norwegian wool for several years - with traditional Norwegian and modern knitting patterns.
