Inscribing instead of labelling. Impressing stamp.
Sometimes a label is not enough. Coloured labels and stickers wear down (or are removed); therefore, in heavy industry tools are frequently marked with impressing stamps. In this way, a large piece of equipment can be used by many people at the same time. The common procedure is that the lender leaves behind a "tool brand" furnished with his or her personal number. What proves to be economical in industry should not be seen as irrelevant for a neighbourhood economy; at least, it can be advantageous for the favourable lending and borrowing of items when actual ownership never comes into question.

The impressing stamps (height 6.5 cm, edge length 7 mm; type height 4 mm) are made by a German manufacturer, who has been producing embossing tools since 1932; they have a Rockwell-hardness of 58 to 60 HRC. They are produced, first, through a pressing method and then flame hardened; in this way, they are suitable – technically formulated – for impressing into workpieces with up to 800 N/sq m firmness. This value describes their possibilities and limitations. You would hardly be able to impress the head of a serious hammer; however, you could easily inscribe a shovel, a snow sweeper, and the majority of metal sheets – and, naturally, wooden handles as well.
In two variations:
26 capital letters as well as the &-symbol.
9 digits from 0 to 9 (with the 6 in a double role).
26 capital letters plus the & sign.
