Hedgehog passage

Have you built a hedgehog house in a quiet corner of your garden? And every year in the fall you pile up heaps of leaves and brushwood and make sure there is enough food - but a hedgehog family still hasn't moved in? There could be a very simple reason for this. The nocturnal spiny creatures, which will be on the Red List of Threatened Species for the first time in 2024, are on the move a lot. They can cover distances of three to five kilometers in search of food. One hedgehog protection measure is therefore particularly important: ensure unhindered access to your garden area! This hedgehog passageway, which you can attach to your garden fence using wire loops or binding tape, is designed for this purpose. It's very easy to do, just cut a sufficiently large (rather small) hole in the fence at ground level beforehand.

The hedgehog passage is carefully sawn out of multiplex boards. Our tip: Make sure there is some distance from the ground, then the untreated material will last longer. Ideally, you should install the gate for the hedgehogs in your neighborhood in such a way that not only the animal visitors will notice it, but also the people around you. This is also a form of lobbying for the now endangered wild animals: pass on your knowledge, share your commitment and encourage others to do the same.
