Hand broom sorghum grass

Dirt crumbs on the doormat, potting compost on the balcony, broken glass on the floorboards: For some things that we accidentally spill, lose or drop, it's not worth reaching for a vacuum cleaner or cordless handheld vacuum cleaner. For as long as there have been households, a hand broom has proven its worth for smaller (un)accidents - especially when it is a functional and aesthetically pleasing model like this one.

The trimming and handle of this hand broom are one and the same: they are bundled by hand from dried sorghum stalks, which are also called "broomcorn" for obvious reasons. Fine panicle stalks of sorghum form the broom tip, creating a larger (sweeping) surface that is robust yet gentle enough not to scuff your furniture or floors. The smooth, solid handle ends, on the other hand, form the grip, which is secured with a winding of strong cotton twine. In order to give the hand brush both shape and aesthetics, the Estonian manufacturer uses a traditional craft process from her home country for the winding: Towards the end of the bristles, she steps down the weave to achieve the practical, flat shape of the broom and the characteristic geometric pattern.
