Hair clip brass
General Information
Making good things last: Hair forks like these are usually found in wood or plastic. Goldsmith Kathrin Kiehl makes these models especially for Manufactum - from highly polished brass and in a timeless, no-frills shape.
Kiehls Klunker. Hair clips from the goldsmith's workshop
Goldsmith Kathrin Kiehl not only designs jewelry, but also hair accessories, which she has been making herself in her Leipzig workshop since 2016. Her design language is straightforward and simple, almost purist, resulting in timeless, elegant 'bling' that is easy to use and gentle on the hair. Various metals are used, but Kiehl prefers brass and titanium, which she carefully processes by hand. In this way, she always has a direct influence on the workmanship and quality and can ensure her high standards. Brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, impresses with its high strength, durability and its golden color, which is particularly beautiful in the polished material in the hair. In addition to design and quality, resource-saving production also plays a key role. A proportion of scrap metal is always added to the brass alloy. Cardboard boxes or fabric bags made from pure, undyed cotton nettle with cords made from natural hemp are used as packaging.
The two hair clips follow the principle of hair forks and sticks and are just as easy to use as their design: they are simply inserted into the knotted hair and the two prongs hold it in place much better than a single stick. With the hair slide, the bent round end wraps around the strand of the hair knot like a hook, holds it and disappears underneath, so that only two rods appear to be stuck in the hairstyle. The hair fork consists of a bent round wire that is forged flat at the closed end, which further increases stability. The barrettes hold normal and thick hair and are even suitable for straight, heavy hair.
